Meet ‘Unbroken Land’ 2018 Artist Kaye Pedersen

Kaye Pedersen is an Alice Springs based dance artist with experience in school, commercial & community dance settings. Working extensively with young people, Kaye teaches choreographic & compositional processes involved in dance & physical theatre and is currently a dance & drama teacher at Centralian Senior College. In addition, Kaye has worked with Incite Arts on Sprung Youth Dance as a choreographer and with Dusty Feet Dance Collective on projects with performance outcomes.

Prior to arrival in Alice Springs, Kaye worked in dance theatre education with her dance company Lyrebird Dance Theatre, and in corporate entertainment, producing cabaret and dance based entertainment for corporate events, nightclubs, festivals and sporting events.

Between 2004 & 2011, she founded and directed Beach City Dance, a dance school with an emphasis on inclusiveness and wellbeing. Under Kaye’s direction Lyrebird Dance Theatre toured to China and Singapore in 2012. Kaye is currently using this background in event and commercial dance to produce cabaret entertainment as co-director of the Alice Springs based entertainment initiative ‘Desert Diamonds’. To date the Desert Diamonds have produced two sold out, full-length cabaret nights.

For ‘Unbroken Land’ 2018 Kaye is working on a community dance project, choreographing and performing a water-drumming piece.

When asked about her experiences with Incite and Unbroken Land she said.. “I really love Incites approach to inclusion and of engaging people from all sectors of the community through arts, making those arts then accessible through different and interesting ways to traditional theatre settings.”

“I’ve always liked the idea of doing site-specific works and I think the Desert Park, and the idea of being in the desert and being connected to water and thinking about ways to explore that, is a really nice artistic project.”
