Virginia Heydon has a Certificate of Art, Hornsby TAFE, 1996 and Diploma in Arts, Alexander Mackie College of Advanced Education, 1999. As a young woman she performed with cutting edge Sydney performance groups “One Extra Dance Company” and “Kinetic Energy” and was a founder of ‘Blackwattle Studio’, 1980-85. Collaborating with Ronaldo Cameron and “Theatre Unlimited”, 1979–85, Virginia performed overseas and created seminal environment/site specific CACD works. She has worked in communities across Australia co-ordinating, directing and performing in festivals, parades, community theatre events, schools and has extensive production skills. Since 1996 she has worked in Alice Springs to provide creative arts opportunities for young people and people with disability. As a founding member of InCite Youth Arts, Virginia has worked with Jenine since 2001 to grow CACD practice in the region.

Virginia played a key role as dance mentor and Advisory Committee member for the seminal ‘Mapping New Territory’ project 2003, partnering with the disability sector to deliver an arts program for people with disability. This saw the beginning of Arts Access Central Australia (AACA) 2004-2013. AACA amalgamated with Incite Youth Arts to become Incite Arts, 2013. As Incite’s Manager, CACD, Virginia supports project officers, artist/mentors and mentorees and facilitates effective community consultation and engagment, cross-cultural awareness to support project delivery. With Jenine she also documents and archives Incite’s work and oversees marketing and promotions. Based in Alice, Virginia is the ‘face’ of the organisation; ensuring consistency for Incite’s CACD values and practice. Her uniquely enduring ‘out of the box’ partnership with Jenine, who works remotely from her Perth home office and comes to Alice for strategic development and direct project delivery, ventures into new levels of community collaboration as they create community celelbration events.
