Carol has a particular focus and talent in enabling adults with intellectual disability to find expression for their gifts to be shared and valued. She lived and worked in a Melbourne community as a member of L’Arche Australia. L’Arche (means The Ark) is an International Federation that seeks to empower people with a disability to play a vital and active role in society. Carol has traveled and lived in these communities in Canada, France, Philippines, Japan and the US to experience how The Arts offer a unique voice to help our community understand and value the contribution people offer across all abilities, religious and cultural traditions.
Carol has lived in central Australia for three decades working in adult and school education, linguistics, as a cross-cultural mentor. It was her role with L’Arche as RCD coordinator (Remembering Celebrating Dreaming) and liaison with the Sandy Beach adult education Centre that she developed a strong commitment to people with an intellectual disability access legitimate opportunities in work, the Arts and education rather than only a ‘day program’! She will pursue how the NDIS in Alice Springs can support people access the wider community as well as develop their own vision for a real future.
Carol will work to explore how Incite Arts can maximize opportunities for both the organization and the community.
