Katie Leslie is a proud Gamilaroi and Mandandanji woman, from Moree, NSW. She has a deep passion and love for her Aboriginal culture and heritage, as well as the performing arts. She studied acting at ACPA (The Aboriginal Centre for Performing Arts) and later went on to study dance at NAISDA Dance College.
In 2008 Katie came to Alice Springs and was introduced to Incite Arts through a friend who recommended her as a dance facilitator. Ever since then Katie has been coming to Alice to work with Incite on various programs including: Red Sand Culture, SPRUNG Youth Dance, Southern Ngalia and Unbroken Land.
This year Katie is choreographing a solo dance piece inspired by the Pink Cockotoo, as well as working with young people from Alice Springs and Darwin on a group piece.
Katie had this to say about Unbroken Land and working with Incite Arts – ‘I love working with Incite, young people and events such as Unbroken Land. Performing and dance experiences are good for my soul and spirit. I get a lot out of working with other artists and people up this way.’
