Lizzy T is a young Pitjantjatjara, Arrernte woman, with family from lots of communities. She is an emerging singer and songwriter. When she writes music, she says it helps her language come back. “I can feel it in my DNA,” she says.
Lizzy was inspired to join ‘stArts with D’ Performance Ensemble by watching her brother Isaac perform. She says she saw ‘Unbroken Land’ in 2015 and thought ‘I want to do that!’ and returned to perform in 2016. Lizzy has also recently taken part in the Incite project CONNECT2CULTURE with fellow ensemble member Tiffinay Malthouse. The project was created as a response to the two artists wishing to creatively explore their connections to cultural heritage, language, stories, song and dance.
For Unbroken Land 2018, Lizzy has been working on an electronic music composition and dance piece, working with, K-girl, a performer, singer, songwriter, facilitator and community worker, based in Alice Springs. Bees and their importance to the health of all things inspired her piece for this year’s show.
One of the things she enjoys most about performing is when audience members talk to her after the show. One of her favourite moments was in 2016 when an audience member came up to her and said, “I love your dance and I want to be like that one day.” “Just like when I saw Isaac” Lizzy says.
